CFA volunteer call out
IF you have ever thought about joining the CFA, now is the time, according to Simpson brigade captain Jono Hutton.

IF you have ever thought about joining the CFA, now is the time, according to Simpson brigade captain Jono Hutton.
He said while the unit had good volunteer numbers, the number available to turn out was low.
“We need active members,” Mr Hutton said.
“We have a lot of transient members in the community.
“We need people that live in and love the community to get involved.”
He first joined the brigade as a way to give back to the community.
“I can’t help our in any other way but this,” Mr Hutton said.
“I’ve always felt the need to give back somehow in life and thought the CFA was perfect.
“It’s a good thing to be involved.”
Volunteers receive full training and can be as big or as little commitment which suits the individual’s life and work commitments.
Mr Hutton said people of all ages would be welcomed.
“Our newest member is 17 and will go through training soon,” he said.
“Alf and Denise Frith have been involved with the brigade for more than 40 years.
“It’s (volunteering) not just going out on the truck, we need people for other roles like bringing people out to call outs and helping around the station.”
Mr Hutton said the Simpson CFA unit was involved in the community in a number of ways.
“Every year we try and do the Santa run and put back into the community,” he said.
“We also raised over $2000 collecting for the Good Friday Appeal this year.
“As a community, it’s good just to be involved and help out.”
Mr Hutton encouraged community members who had been thinking about volunteering to make contact to find out what was involved and get answers to any questions.
He said people could visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au/volunteer or make contact with the Simpson brigade via the Simpson CFA Community Board Facebook page.
“Come down and see us and what we’re all about,” Mr Hutton said.
“If anyone has thought about it now is the time to do it.
“Every hand on deck can help.”
