THIS month, following a short business meeting, Timboon Lions Club held its annual Changeover dinner meeting at Timboon Golf Club.

Combining the two meetings on the same night was perhaps a slightly unusual departure from normal club procedure but the combined function turned out to be a highly enjoyable occasion.

It enabled not only members but their partners and friends to welcome the club’s new 2023/2024 office bearers in a more informal setting.

Adding to the relaxed atmosphere participants contributed to a delicious supper by supplying items themselves.

The office bearers who were installed are: David Gamble (president), Owen Wallace (vice-president), Steve Trotter (secretary), Mike Herrin (treasurer), Hans Kruse (tail twister), Ray Smith (lion tamer), Mike Herrin (bulletin editor), Owen Wallace (membership chairman).

In an inaugural address following his installation president David thanked past-president Ken Ackerley and all the other outgoing office bearers for the work they did making sure that our club carried out its mission of service to the local and broader community.

David also expressed how honoured that he has been elected at a time when many Lions clubs, including Timboon Lions, are finding it hard to increase their membership.

During the evening president David performed his first duty; it was to present a Lions medallion to Owen Wallace in recognition of his fifty years of membership in Timboon Lions Club.

During his term Owen has served on numerous committees and held many positions in the club including that of president.

In the coming year the club is determined to undertake new projects of significance to the community and which will, hopefully, attract new members.

We are also determined to cherish our older members and partners who can no longer attend meetings by inviting them to special informal functions.

Our wood raffles and cake sales outside Timboon IGA are continuing despite the sometimes inclement weather and Max Anderson, after his retirement from his Brucknell farm, is continuing collection and sale of used batteries for us.
