STUDENTS at St Colman’s Primary School will be pounding the pavement to raise funds for technology upgrades as part of this year’s annual raffle.

St Colman’s Primary School raffle co-ordinator Jane Lee said the raffle had become an annual event due to the tremendous support the community had shown over its first two years.

“It went so well the first two years it will be an annual event,” she said.

“We have sold over 500 tickets in each of the first two years, raising about $9500 each year, so we hope to better that this year and sell close to 600 tickets.

“There are only 600 tickets available, which are great odds.

“There will be the same prizes and the same format, so we know what we’re doing now.”

Students will again take an active role in selling tickets, giving them an opportunity to be directly involved with the raffle and to also connect with the wider community.

With the help of their families, students will take rostered turns selling raffle tickets from 11am-2pm outside Clarke’s Café each Friday, 10am-2pm outside Bates IGA on Saturday and from 9am-1pm on the first and third Thursday of the month at Western Victoria Livestock Exchange.

Ms Lee said seeing students get excited to be involved in raising funds for their school was a highlight.

“They get very excited about it and love being out on the street selling tickets,” she said.

“This year the funds raised will go towards updating devices in the classrooms, so they will be pumped up.

“It’s a win-win not only for the adults but the kids as well.”

Ticket sales were off to a strong start with 75 sold in the first week and can be purchased online, via QR code on the fliers or at retailers around Mortlake.

The first two years of the raffle helped to fund the undercover area and soft-surface basketball court, which has quickly become a favourite spot for students to play while protected from the elements.

The major prize will be a $3000 voucher supplied by Scott’s Betta Home Living in Mortlake.

Second prize will be a $1000 neighbourhood benefits card supplied by Mortlake South Wind Farm developer Acciona, which can be spent at participating retailers in Terang and Mortlake.

Third prize will be a $500 gift voucher supplied by Bates IGA, Mortlake.

The raffle will be drawn on July 21.
