CANCER patients in Corangamite Shire now have access to support a little closer to home thanks to a brand new oncology clinic in Camperdown.

Based at the Robinson Street Clinic every second Friday, Dr George Iatropoulos will see patients in Camperdown through the public medical system.

He began the new service recently with two patients making use of the free clinic on itsfirst day.

Dr Iatropoulos said the clinic was his idea and hoped it would benefit the wider community.

“This is for Camperdown, Terang, Cobden, Timboon, Mortlake and surrounds,” he said.

“It’s for the community.

“It’s free, no out of pocket costs.

“It will be for everyone.”

Dr Iatropoulos said the first step of the clinic would be providing patient consults.

“We will develop it accordingly,” he said.

“The next step would be to do some treatment locally at the hospital – maybe three or foura week.

“We will start with low risk treatments.”

Current patients can request a Camperdown appointment when they next meet with Dr Iatropoulos.

Patients who would like a referral to the service can ask their GP to refer to the South West Healthcare Specialist Outpatients Clinic.

Dr Iatropoulos also works in the South West Healthcare Warrnambool public oncology unit and the Austin Hospital.
