COBDEN’S senior footballers just snuck over the line last weekend, defeating bottom-side Portland by three points.

The narrow victory by the fourth-placed Bombers sees them just half a game clear of Terang Mortlake in fifth with three rounds remaining.

Final scores were Cobden 15.10.100 to Portland 14.13.97.

Best for the Bombers were Thomas Spokes, Harrison Herschell, Louis Darcy, Joshua Hickey and Sam Thow.

Goals went to Spokes (4), Michael Koroneos (3), Jack Hammond (2), Herschell (2), Jesse Williamson (2) and singles from Patrick Smith and Daniel Watson.

Cobden’s reserves made it win number 14 with an 89-point victory over the Tigers, 16.14.110 to 3.3.21.

Harry Darcy and Thomas Darcy both kicked three goals, while Jack Darcy and Nicholas Kemp added two each and Martin Angus, Louis Cahill, Brenton Flemming, Brady Green, Joe Hutt and Jack McGlade each contributed singles.

Best for the Bombers were Jack Darcy, Jack McGlade, Brady Green, Thomas Darcy and Joe Hutt.

In the under 18.5s the Bombers enjoyed a good win over the Tigers, 9.5.59 to 5.6.36.

Benjamin McGlade, Thomas Roberts, Luke Smith, Henry Robertson, Jayden Gass and Bailey Vines were named best while Roberts, Gass and Robertson contributed to the board with two goals each.

Tyler Humphrey, Isaac McVilly and Luke Smith each kicked a goal.

Cobden’s open netballers now sit second on the Hampden ladder and are looking strong flag contenders.

The team put on a strong performance last Saturday to defeat Portland 68-43.

Best for the Bombers were Sophie Blain, Amy Hammond and Remeny McCann.

Division one – Cobden defeated Portland 45-41. Best: Molly Hutt, Lara Taylor and Rebecca Dendle.

Division two – Cobden defeated Portland 42-38. Best: Amy Kavenagh, Kayla Pow and Emily Darcy.

Division three – Cobden defeated Portland 33-23. Best: Monique Beames, Tonya Spokes and Grace Dawson.

17 and under – Cobden defeated Portland 46-39. Best: Kate Smith, Jessica Walsh and Nikki Clover.

15 and under – Cobden lost to Portland 19-37. Best: Milla Darcy and Victoria Buckle.

13 and under – Cobden lost to Portland 28-31. Best players: Tyra Sambell and Daisy Bennett.
