Close final for Tigers
DERRINALLUM’s under 12 mixed cricket side has gone down by just two runs in what was their first grand final appearance.

The young playing group – the first under 12 side for the club – showed plenty of skills throughout the Grenville Cricket Association’s home and away season.
Coach Luke Brain was full of praise for the youngsters, saying the group was undefeated prior to last week’s grand final match against Linton.
“They were just an enthusiastic group, training each Thursday, playing Friday nights and then some even filled in for the club’s under 16 side on Saturdays which is a great effort for kids so young,” Brain said.
“While the grand final loss wasn’t quite the result we hoped for, particularly given we hadn’t lost a game all season, we’re all very proud of them.
“They’ve all improved so much this season and have worked hard with the bat and ball.”
Last Friday night’s grand final match saw Derrinallum face Linton at Derrinallum - following a 20 over format, with batsmen facing 10 balls before retiring.
Linton won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 0/149 after 20 overs.
In reply, Derrinallum fell just two runs short, reaching 0/147.
Charles Turner top scored with 17 off 10 balls which included two boundaries and one six.
In the under 16 competition, Derrinallum lost to Rokewood in last Sunday’s semi-final.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Tigers reached 10/83 in the 37th over with opener Charlie Londregan the only batsman to reach double figures with 19 runs.
In reply, Rokewood was 7/84 after 26 overs.
Bailey Childs was best of the bowlers for Derrinallum, taking an impressive 5/12 from seven overs.
The club’s senior side will contest its first semi-final in more than a decade when they take on Lexton at Derrinallum this Saturday.
