Close one for Tigers
SIMPSON’S senior footballers remain in the hunt for their second win of the season following last weekend’s round seven loss to South Colac.

SIMPSON’S senior footballers remain in the hunt for their second win of the season following last weekend’s round seven loss to South Colac.
In front of a home crowd on Saturday, the Tigers went down by 15 points, 10.1.61 to 11.10.76 in a game coach Daniel Beard believed was a “winnable one”.
“The result was certainly a little disappointing because I believe that’s one we could have won,” he said.
“South, I feel, has slipped a little from last year and had a few players out. Once again we seemed to be a few goals up after half-time and then just stopped running and doing all the little things that get us in front.
“This is something we need to really work hard on and fix up in the back half of the season.”
Beard said while his side moved the ball really well and applied good pressure in the first half, the intensity dropped in the second.
“Moving forward, we take on Western Eagles this weekend and then Apollo Bay in round nine – who are 9th and 10th on the ladder so we really need to look at bouncing back and getting a couple of wins on the board which should lift spirits.
“We also have our annual Tiger Ball on this weekend so hopefully everyone will get around that and have a great social night out.”
Best for the Tigers last weekend were Matthew Drayton, Jesse Gallichan, Nicholas Harding, Brad Salmon, Jack Finn and Jack Hookway.
Goals went to Harding (4), Drayton (2) and one each from Gus Hawkes, Brock Neal, Brad Salmon and Rhys Ziegelaar.
Simpson’s reserves were up and about on the weekend, booting 17.11.113 while containing the visitors to just 1.5.11.
Jono Jennings earned best on ground honours kicking eight goals, while Noah Ackerley and Brodie Neale contributed two goals each.
Nick Duynhoven, Cody Mason, Jayden McVilly, Sam Rix and Nick Watson each added a goal to the board.
Best on ground, along with Jennings, were Jason Kordupel, Nick Duynhoven, Daniel Wright, Sam Rial and Noah Ackerley.
In the under 18s earlier in the day, Simpson found the going tough against South Colac, defeated by 27 points – 6.3.39 to 9.12.66.
Tyson Balcombe, Louis Duynhoven, Geordie Ferrari, Bradey Fratantaro, Isaac Holland and Hunter Bennett were all in the best players for the Tigers while goal kickers were Holland (2), Louis McCosker (2) and one apiece to Louis Duynhoven and Bradey Fratantaro.
