Having won the toss and elected to bat, the Knights put on a defendable total of 10/132 in the 45th over.

Openers Matthew Boyle (27 off 24 deliveries) and Jonty Robertson (26) showed plenty of skill at the crease while middle order batsman Parker Walsh also played well, contributing 42 runs to the total before being caught out.

Despite a consistent effort with the ball and in the field, the Knights were unable to contain Boorcan who reached 7/133 after 41 overs.

Best of the bowlers for the Knights were Parker Walsh 2/12 from 10 overs, Matthew Boyle 2/27 off seven and Matthew Harkin 2/38.

Paul Pekin finished the day with figures of 1/28 off six.

The Knights’ division two side also had a close encounter.

Playing at the South Purrumbete Recreation Reserve – the first sporting match to be held at the reserve in 25 years – the Knights were sent in to bat after Pomborneit won the toss.

A stella 60 runs off 95 deliveries from Michael Pegg, coupled with an unbeaten knock of 40 from Joshua Hickey, saw the Knights amass 7/183 after 40 overs.

In reply, the Bulls managed 6/184 in the 38th over due, in part, to a 90-run knock from Luke Reynolds.

Michael Pegg took 2/22 off eight overs while Cooper Beard 1/32, and Joshua Hickey 1/28, were also effective with the ball.

The Knights’ division three side also came close to a win, finishing at 10/95 while Camperdown Lakers reached 3/96.

Bailey Clarke (15), Jacob Pekin (14) and Matthew Hanks (10) were the only Knights to reach double figures.

This weekend’s round will see Cobden’s division one side travel to Woorndoo, division two will face Bookaar at Cobden Technical School while division three will take on Timboon at MCP Oval.
