PORT Campbell Surf Life Saving Club members have celebrated another busy season.

Club captain Darcy Tribe said the club recently held its end of season annual dinner.

He said a number of awards were presented on the night which included:

• Life membership – Ian Harris;

• The Stewart Meek Memorial Best Club Person Award – Darcy Tribe;

• The John Younis Best Junior Club Person Award – Molly Jones;

• The Ross and Andrew Powell Achievement Award – Ian Harris;

• The Peter O’Rorke Power Boat Award – Guy Faber;

• The David and Marie McKenzie Family Lifesaver of the Year Award – Susanna Ryan;

• The President’s Dunny Seat Award – David McKenzie; and

• The Bill Pope Best Patrol Award – Ben Matthews, Charlie Trotter, Zeth Kerr, Ben O’Leary, Tiff Jones and Bethany Best.

Presentations were also presented to club champions and competitive teams.

Mr Tribe commended Molly Jones for her efforts this season.

“This season we have seen Molly grow into a young leader,” he said.

“Molly gained her bronze, radio operators, advanced resuscitation certificate over the season, with her goals to continue to build her lifesaving skills over the off season.

“Molly attended the Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club’s junior leadership and development camp to Bondi this season.

“She was actively involved in the patrols, activities and daily group discussions while on the camp. She has brought back ideas from Bondi Surf Life Saving Club to bring to our club.”

Molly said she was pleased with the recognition.

“It was a bit of a shock,” she said.

“It was certainly a nice surprise.”

Molly said she began her involvement with the club in the Nippers program and has worked her way up to patrolling.

She encouraged anyone thinking about getting involved to give it a go.

“I feel like being part of a volunteer program like this is good,” Molly said.

“The people in the club are so welcoming.

“It makes you feel part of the community and that you’re making an impact.”

Mr Tribe said the season had been a busy one for the club.

“We had four rescues on Boxing Day at Port Campbell, 10 weeks of Nippers, expanding our patrols to Peterborough over the Australia Day weekend, the club’s junior leadership camp to Bondi, a Great Ocean Walk day and winning South West Sports Club of the Year Award,” he said.

“None of that would be possible without all our amazing patrollers who volunteers their time to contribute to our longest patrol season running from late November to Anzac Day.

“We look forward to recharging over winter and going again in summer.”

Mr Tribe said the club would continue to expand its services and initiatives next season.

“Expanding Peterborough patrols and a disability beach access day is currently planned for season 2023/24,” he said.

“If you would like to get involved, feel free to message me anytime on 0459 556 153.”
