Club hosts outing to celebrate 25 years
THE Terang Walking Group celebrated its 25-year milestone last week with a special bus trip throughout the region.
The club has grown from strength to strength in recent years thanks to its ability to create strong social connections and promote physical activity.
Terang Walking Group member Cheryl Ham said the group celebrated their milestone with a special outing.
“We went the long way to Hopkins Falls before visiting Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory, had a look at the dairy museum with a cheese tasting, and then we went to the Panmure Pub for lunch,” she said.
“We think it’s just terrific to have so many members still.
“We’ve got about 40-50 members at the moment, and in its heyday it had about 80 members.
“A lot of the current members have been here for the 25 years because the group caters for all types of walking.
“We’ve got people on walkers, frames and walking sticks just as we’ve got people who can take off, but importantly we are a social group as well as a walking group, with a lot of people coming along just to have a coffee and a talk.”
The Terang Walking Group meets at 9.30am every Wednesday at the Terang Senior Citizens Centre on The Promenade.
The group caters to all levels of mobility, with a longer 45-minute walk as well as medium and short walks.
Terang Walking Group member Nola Davey said numbers had remained strong over the years, and new members would be welcomed with open arms.
“We’ve got a lot more men doing it now, which is great to see,” she said.
“It’s almost a 50/50 split but, originally, I think there was only one man.
“We also have a special activity once a month, with upcoming activities including going to Morning Melodies, having a barbecue and then a sponsored trip.”
