COBDEN Probus Club had 39 members and 11 apologies at its May meeting.
A minute silence was held for the passing of fellow Probian Merv Holloway who sadly passed away last month.
Merv was a long-time member and will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with Mary, James and Nicholas and families.
President Kevin warmly welcomed two new members Denise Sharp and Rodney Horsted, and hope they enjoy all the friendship and fellowship that the Probus Club provides.
Our guest speaker for May was Cloudia Bouma and her daughter Hannah.
Cloudia was born in the Netherlands and travelled and worked in many countries where learning to speak many languages French, German, Spanish, Italian and English, just to name some.
Cloudia met and married her husband in Australia— when they had three of their four children.
Cloudia and her family headed off on an adventure around Australia, after three months in Darwin Cloudia started her own business in Travel writing and her husband was the photographer.
This enabled them to earn an income while travelling the country. It was while travelling they home schooled their children— this enabled them to have the best of both worlds— running a small business, travelling and spending quality time with their family.
Cloudia and her family have settled in Cobden where they still homes chool their children. Both Cloudia and her husband are 11 years into homes chooling where they love the lifestyle, and mentoring.
Hannah spoke with great confidence of her home schooling the activities and her life experiences, along with the closeness of all the family.
Our members asked numerous questions on the regulations and the rules of home schooling, where they are governed by guidelines that they must abide by.
A small gift was presented to Cloudia and Hannah, where president Kevin congratulated Cloudia on her information and experience on home schooling and providing members with her interesting talk.
Our Annual Bowls Day was held recently and a great day was had by all who attended.
The winners for the day were Pam Savage, Trevor Roberts, Joy Hill and fill-in for the afternoon session was Glenice Roberts.
Runners up were Joyce Roberts, Jan Fraser and Ian Wilson.
And our wooden spooners for the afternoon were Denise Sharp, Mary Holloway and Ron Hill.
All enjoyed a lovely morning tea and lunch from our catering girls. All who were there had a very enjoyable day with plenty of laughter even if more bowls went off the mat than stayed on.
Our next Probus meeting is June 8, in the Heytesbury Room Cobden Civic Hall at 10am. All most welcome to attend.
