Cobden Probus Club Notes

COBDEN Probus Club welcomed 36 members and five apologies to the October meeting.

By wd-news

A minute silence was held for Probian Gwenyth “Teddy” Steele - a foundation member of Cobden Probus, who sadly passed away.

Our love and thoughts are with Susan and Rod at this very sad time. R.I.P. Teddy you will be sadly missed.

We had five members celebrate their birthday this month - happy birthday to you all.

Our guest speaker for October was Karen Hepworth - Karen works for the Forensic Disability Service and is also an artist.

Karen spoke of her working with and supporting the complex behaviour of clients with a disability who are in the justice system.

Karen spoke of her love of painting, which inspires her, and it also helps her clients to cope with their trauma.

These paintings are bright and colourful, which Karen takes great knowledge from all the books that she has read, and spoke of the paintings that represent the stories.

Karen passed around her works to members - the paintings used are all water-based paints with hand stitching.

These paintings are very talented and beautiful pieces which tell a story, some can process her day’s work and can help to keep her cool - a great problem solver.

She can take months working on a piece only to find that it’s not appropriate - her works relate to personalities and many birds of great colour which proved to be a connection for everyone.

Karen has an exhibition in Port Fairy in 2025 of all her works - screen printing plus etching - her focus is birds.

A small gift of appreciation was presented to Karen for a very interesting show and tell, and our best wishes for her exhibition next year.

Our next meeting is November 14 in the Heytesbury Room at Cobden Civic Hall from 10am.
