NEARLY 40 Cobden and district organisations participated in the recent Reconnecting Cobden expo at the Civic Hall.

“The amount of work put in by volunteer groups to create informative and entertaining displays was incredible,” Progressing Cobden’s Kelvin White said.

“Everyone’s cooperation helped to make the day a great occasion which won a great deal of positive feedback.

“While the steady number of visitors kept the exhibitors more than busy, the amount of networking and discussion about our district, its present and its future was constructive and enthusiastic.

“The vibe in and outside the hall was fantastic – everyone mixed and learned a lot about what was on offer.”

Mr White said particular highlights were the opportunity to try indoor bowls and line dancing while the broad range of different groups and activities clearly impressed the many visitors.

“Outside the hall were the State Emergency Service, the Country Fire Authority and the South Western District Engineers whose miniature trains attracted a lot of interest, particularly from younger people,” he said.

“It was a credit to all involved – certainly worth the effort on all counts.”

“The expo was the second part of the Reconnecting Cobden program begun late last year with a volunteers dinner hosted by Cobden Technical School.”

Mr White thanked the volunteer barbecue chefs – Frank Ovens, Geoff Ovens, Ron Greagen and Eddie McDowell – who worked tirelessly to ensure everyone was well-nourished.

“Cobden’s Ritchies IGA came on board to support the day with super meat and bread deals which was much-appreciated,” hesaid.

For people who may have missed the unique Cobden event, an extensive list of district organisations is available at Cobden VIC 3266 in Curdie Street.
