Cobden students lead the way
LEADERS in the making from Cobden Primary School attended the Student Leaders Congress celebration evening recently.
Despite a busy week for the students, the group – along with their families – celebrated their achievements in the program.
The program, which is in its 10th year, began in March with a day held at Deakin University where students heard from guest speakers Paul Watkins, Dale Sidebottom and Danielle Gladman.
The day was the starting point for the students to create a project within their school or community which focused on improving health and wellbeing.
The group of students which included Macey, Clem, Katie, Piper, Lily, Ryan and Grace, chose to focus on finding alternatives to being on screens.
As part of their initiative they invited Paul Watkins to share his story with all Year 5/6 students, invited Police members John Keats and Brooke Pollock in to discuss CyberSafety with students and friends, and organised with teachers to hold a ‘tech free day’.
The students had a to create a two-minute video which shared their journey, and this was shown at the celebration evening.
Cobden Primary School acting principal Illona Watkins congratulated the group of students on their efforts in the program.
“We love being able to support our students to showcase their leadership skills, and what better way than to work on a project that is school-wide and benefits all,” she said.
“Our students represented Cobden Primary School with pride.
“They spoke with confidence and should be proud of what they’ve achieved.”
