Cobden tourism under spotlight

PROGRESSING Cobden’s Tourism Committee is reconvening to put the burning question under the spotlight: “What is needed to encourage even more visitors to support our town and its businesses?”

By wd-news

The meeting will review the Grand Tourism Plan (GTP) carried out a number of years ago to check its progress.

Progressing Cobden spokesperson Kelvin White said the GTP, which listed both short-term and longer-term projects, was put together after the town’s residents submitted and prioritised ideas to increase visitation to the area.

He said projects in the GTP included the establishment of a free camp and the dump point, Alderwood’s great programs, the appointment of a business development person, the implementation of the Cobden Structure Plan, the Cobden Aerodrome Master Plan and the Tandarook Botanical Park strategy,

“There is certainly vitality that can be used to create more momentum if residents and groups continue to work together,” Mr White said.

“While not all of these advances came directly from the GTP, many were included as important and necessary to get many different aspects of the town moving.

“Community members are asked to attend the resumption of the Tourism committee at 7pm next Monday evening – May 27 – in the Heytesbury Room. Written submissions from individuals or organisations are welcome as well.”

Anyone wanting a copy of the GTP or the minutes of recent meetings of the Tourism committee can contact Kelvin White on 0429 921 876 or kwh84567@bigpond.net.au.
