‘Coffee on the bench’ for those in need
THE Camperdown and District Community House is working with cafes in Camperdown to bring a new “pay it forward” campaign to town.
The ‘Coffee on the Bench’ initiative will formally start on Tuesday, July 30, and residents will be able to purchase a coffee at any participating business for community members who may not be able to afford a cup.
Community House co-ordinator Emily Mercer said the aim of the new initiative is to support community mental health, connection and the local economy.
“The pressures of the rising cost of living are being felt all across the community, so we are hoping this initiative will provide some additional trade for our local businesses that may be being lost due to these financial constraints,” she said.
“The benefits of being able to have a coffee on mental health and community connection is often underrated.
“Whether you meet with a friend or simply have the excuse to get out of the house and share in a conversation with the wonderful staff at our local cafes, having social interaction and connection to our wider community is highly beneficial.
“If you see the sign “We have coffee credit today” in the window of participating businesses, this means that you can ask for a ‘Coffee on the Bench’ and collect a free coffee.”
Coffee credit for the initiative can be purchased at Camperdown Bakery, DJs Café, Farmhouse @ 153, Wellnest, Quick Stop Café, Sweet Giftz, Loaf and Lounge, Excuse Me Katie’s and Red Robin Café.
“A huge thank you to the participating businesses and the Corangamite Shire Grow and Prosper Corangamite team for your support and involvement,” Ms Mercer said.
“Love where you live and support local.”
