BLUE socks, Oodies, hats and beanies were all part of the uniform last Friday when Camperdown College turned a distinct shade of blue to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
The fight MND campaign as seen across the country incorporates ice cold water and brave individuals taking the plunge into the sub zero H20 and the same was to be seen right here in Camperdown.
Junior School Council teacher Madi Helmore said the staff who took the teachers ice bucket challenge “sure had a look of shock on their face as the water hit them” including both assistant principals Jacinta Tolland and Vicki Angus, and school principal Cherie Kilpatrick.
“They weren’t just dressed in blue for the day…they even had blue lips!” Ms Helmore said.
“It took some brave people to put their hands up and volunteer- it certainly wasn’t an activity for the faint of heart.
“While the fun and excitement of the day had everyone laughing, it was all for a good cause and students understood the bigger picture of raising funds to find a cause for MND.”
Over at the senior campus, it was another group of brave staff and students who nervously lined up for the ice-cold dunking including brothers Aaron and Isaac Lewis who volunteered to go first after speaking to the assembled crowd about how their family has been touched by MND.
Teacher Gabrielle Eckhart, who works with the Student Representative Council (SRC), said it was a fun way to end the term.
“Going blue for MND was a great way to end out Term 2 and celebrate the start of holidays- all for a good cause,” she said.
“Across the two campuses we raised more than $900 for the day.
“For the brave staff and students who entered the ice bucket challenge, we’re grateful for their bold decision and hilarity it brought us for the day.
“It was just a little moment of pain in the grand scheme of things – considering people with MND fight a battle everyday.”
