A small section of render fell on to the veranda which covers the footpath last Friday at around 9.15am.

Hotel staff quickly moved to secure the area to ensure public safety, with temporary fencing remaining in place.

The sectioned area does not impact the flow of pedestrian traffic nor impede parking, and remains in place out of an abundance of caution.

Corangamite Shire Council acting director sustainable development Aaron Moyne said

council had been in contact with management and served an emergency order.

“As a result of render falling away from the parapet of the Commercial Hotel in Camperdown, an emergency order was served by council’s municipal building surveyor on Monday, February 13,” he said.

“The emergency order has a maximum duration of 48 hours and can then be extended by a Building Notice.

“The affected area has been secured and discussions have been held with the hotel manager, who has been in contact with a maintenance group for building repairs to be undertaken.”

Western District Newspapers understands the Commercial Hotel is in the process of arranging repair works, but no timeline for works had been formalised prior to publication.
