Community honours
THE Cobden and district community came together on Thursday to honour war veterans buried at the Cobden Cemetery.

THE Cobden and district community came together on Thursday to honour war veterans buried at the Cobden Cemetery.
More than 90 war veterans final resting places were recognised in the annual initiative which saw Australian flags temporarily placed besides graves.
The number of veterans recognised in this year’s service was up from the 37 acknowledged in the inaugural year of the initiative in 2021.
The project, which culminated with a community ceremony at the cemetery, was a joint effort of the Cobden Technical School and Cobden Cemetery Trust.
For the first time the ceremony also had the school of all Cobden schools, with Cobden Primary School and Hampden Specialist School students joining the service.
Cobden Technical School building community co-ordinator Andrea Stoddart described the day as “amazing”.
“It was wondering to share the experience for all the students in the community,” she said.
“We had new faces that have attended today which is wonderful.
“We continue to grow each year.”
Ms Stoddart said she was pleased with how the day went.
“I think this was a lovely turn out,” she said.
“It’s lovely to see a new generation of students learning about veterans.”
Cobden Primary School principal Jarod Bacon was pleased to be involved with the day.
“It’s just a great experience for the students,” he said.
