Community House to warm bellies this winter
AS the weather turns colder, Camperdown and District Community House volunteers will be powering on their slow cooker for the second annual Winter Warmer.
Community House co-ordinator Emily Mercer said the event is making a comeback following last year’s success.
“Winter Warmers is a monthly luncheon to provide a hearty meal and bring people together,” she said.
“Join us for soup and sandwiches on the first Thursday of each month starting in June.
“This is a program operating solely on volunteer contributions, with volunteers generously donating their time to design and prepare a menu for us to enjoy.
“The first Winter Warmer session is coming up on Thursday, June 6, with Merle Newling providing her famous pumpkin soup, accompanied by garlic bread, followed by a cheeky sweet treat, all for only $5.”
The pumpkin to be used in the soup will be donated from a local source.
The first Winter Warmer will be held from 12noon – 2pm, with bookings $5 per person.
Ms Mercer encouraged anyone looking for a warm treat to book a seat at the Community House table.
“This is a way for us to get together and keep the winter blues at bay,” she said.
“Places are very limited, due to the size of the venue and public health considerations.
“Booking is essential, so please call us on 5593 1403 if you would like to come along.”
Another two lunches will be held over winter during the same timeframe, with one on Thursday, July 4 and one on Thursday, August 1.
The July and August Winter Warmer menus have not yet been finalised.
The Winter Warmers will be held at the Community House at 6 Gunner Street, Camperdown.
