SIMPSON households spent September creating scarecrows.

Simpson and District Community House co-ordinator Debra Smith organised a scarecrow competition with a number of categories.

She said six entries were received to the competition under the three categories of scary scarecrow, funny scarecrow and traditional scarecrow.

“We had six entries and the judge was impressed with the work and level of imagination that went into them,” Mrs Smith said.

“The winners have selected vouchers from Milk and Honey, Gorge Chocolates, Ball and Chain Hotel and Parlours Home Hardware.”

Scary Scarecrow was awarded to ‘Scaynator’ designed and built by Royce, Lincoln and Henry Rowe.

The Funny Scarecrow award was ‘Captain McStinky Bum’ entered and named by Charlie and Henry Costin.

The mantle of the Traditional Scarecrow winner was ‘Charles and Camilla’ designed and built by Sue Stevens.

The competition was designed to help boost spirits during the latest lockdown, with the hopes front yard scarecrows could provide a light-hearted reprieve from the gloom of restrictions.

Simpson locals within 10 kilometres of the township were encouraged to enter the competition.
