Courthouse volunteers learn more about region
VOLUNTEERS from the Camperdown Courthouse enjoyed an afternoon tea to beat the winter chill recently.
The afternoon tea was run in the Killara Centre as a way of thanking volunteers for their work in the Courthouse, tying in with National Volunteer Week.
Courthouse president Alison Byrne said 20 volunteers were in attendance, with several community members expressing interest in volunteering for the organisation.
“We are so incredibly grateful for the time, energy and passion given to the Courthouse by our volunteers,” she said.
“We are 100 per cent run by volunteers, including ambassadors who keep the doors open, committee and those with a special interest in a focus area such as media, retail, tourism etc.
“We couldn’t provide a service to our visiting community without their commitment.”
Port Campbell Tourist Information Centre tourism coordinator Mark Cuthell provided a presentation at the event, speaking about the top five tourism spots in the Corangamite Shire.
Ms Byrne said Mr Cuthell’s speech provided information for the Courthouse’s volunteers to pass on to tourists.
“It was such a successful event, we will continue to provide opportunities for our volunteers to learn more of the interesting, fun and intriguing places to visit in our shire,” she said.
“The number one place to visit in Camperdown is the stone walls, which takes you to another time and place as you contemplate their origin.”
Volunteers also received a Camperdown keyring designed by Karen McKenzie as a small token of appreciation.
Ms Byrne encouraged anyone who may be interested in volunteering at the Courthouse to reach out.
“The Courthouse is a welcoming place that truly values its volunteers,” she said.
