Crayfest hailed a success
THOUSANDS flocked to Port Campbell over the weekend for what has been described as the best Crayfest yet.

Crayfest returned to the streets of Port Campbell for its fifth year, in a vibrant celebration of the town which places an emphasis on the seafood and local produce farmed from the region’s iconic waters.
The festivities included the popular street parade, food stalls and live music, local restaurants featuring delicious fresh seafood, a beach treasure hunt, fishing clinics on the pier and the Seas the Day event at the Port Campbell Surf Lifesaving Club.
Committee president Lee McLeod said the committee estimated the event drew more than 2000 people to Port Campbell over the weekend.
“We think it was our best Crayfest ever,” she said.
“This was the most numbers we’ve had.
“The weather looked after us, so it was overall a happy, successful time.”
A wide field of entrants in to the popular street parade saw Tregea, Lord, Morris and Cairns Streets lined with eager onlookers who enjoyed the opportunity to catch a glimpse of some truly creative designs.
“All of the floats were lovely,” Mrs McLeod said.
“They were next level.
“There were some really interesting creations.
“One of the things the judges place an emphasis on is reusing and recycling materials, which leads to some very clever entries.”
Mrs McLeod thanked all involved who had ensured the day was a success, from the generous sponsors who keep the day free to attend to the small army of volunteers who happily lend their free time to the celebration.
“Crayfest only runs because there are huge volunteer hours from the community and people in the committee,” she said.
“It is a volunteer-led event which is free for the community because it’s not about making money – it’s about giving people a bit of fun.
“The main aim of Crayfest, for us, has been celebrating our community and what it is that makes Port Campbell such a great place – the environment, produce, beverages, and our community groups and volunteers – who are equally as important as local business in the smooth operation of our town.
“The sense of community connectedness at Crayfest is one of the many reasons why Port Campbell is such a great place to live.”
