Cycling great donates race vests
RETIRED Olympic cyclist Grace Brown has donated some of her race vests to local junior riders.
The popular rider was a special guest at the Camperdown Cycling Club’s final race meet for 2024, held on December 19.
Ms Brown presented the club with some of the kits she has collected during her career, this included from her French cycling female team FJD and her Australian cycling team uniform from the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
This amazing gift will be cherished by members for years to come.
December 19 was a warm summer night, providing an ideal setting for riders who were encouraged to wear festive Christmas gear for the race.
Baubles, tinsel, Santa socks and hats were popular, with Rieley taking out the award for best dressed.
It was also a great night for personal bests, with the majority of riders recording new times.
A change to the start location, which is now at the old saleyards, now provides shade, table and chairs for riders and spectators.
Lily was again the winner, shaving another five minutes from her previous time to set 15.45 as her best.
Second over the line was Finny, who was supported by his mum Rachael, with a time of 18.19.
Third was Zane with a new PB of 9.23.
Other ride times were Riley 11.47 (PB), Finn 9.21 (PB), Noah 12.21 (PB), Henry 12.07 (PB) and Ava 10.55.
Josh continues to smash his times with the fastest time of 8.48 (PB), Quinn 10.19, Oliver 8.53 (PB), Thea 10.50 (PB), Thea 10.50 (PB) and Izzy smashed out another amazing PB of 14.10 which knocked three minutes off her recorded itme.
Nathaniel set a new PB of 10.57 and Lawson at 12.18.
The senior race consisted of 11 riders who battled it out on the Chocolyn course.
This was also a huge effort from the junior girls who stepped up as the limit group.
This was Ava and Thea’s night, holding off all other riders.
The pair worked together throughout the ride and finished first and second respectively.
Josh was third, followed by Jake, Zane, Shaun, Tom, Todd, Finn and Matt C.
Unfortunately, Oliver was a DNF due to a puncture.
A big thanks to the drivers of the front and back cars who volunteer their time to ensure riders are safe on the roads – and picking up the occasional stranded rider.
The end of the year was celebrated at the Camperdown clubrooms with drinks and a barbecue.
All riders are congratulated on their sportsmanship over the previous few months.
The hard work all riders are bringing to the Thursday races are reflective of the times that are continually broken.
Club numbers are slowly growing, making for exciting racing.
