THREE dedicated volunteers have been commended for their years of service to the local community.

Kathleen Sumner, Elaine Lock and Nannette Howard were each presented with service awards at a presentation ceremony recently.

Red Cross state director for Victoria Lisa Devlin offered her “heartfelt congratulations” to the three women on their efforts.

“With well over 60 years of dedicated service between them, this is such a special moment marking their generous contribution,” she said.

“I extend my sincere thanks on behalf of Australian Red Cross for all they have done and continue to do.

“Volunteering with Australian Red Cross allows people to make a difference in their communities, learn new skills, and make great connections and we are always eager to welcome new people through our different avenues of volunteering.”

Elaine Lock has been involved with Red Cross Timboon Branch and later Friends of Red Cross, since 1999.

She has been available for catering and personal support to people affected by emergencies in her local community.

This sense of community spirit saw her join the Red Cross Emergency Services team at Corangamite in 2014.

Nanette Howard has been involved with the Red Cross Timboon Branch since 1999 and with Red Cross Emergency Services in the Corangamite team since 2014.

She continues to participate in practical community and agency exercises, and assisting with RediPlan and Pillowcase presentations.

Kathleen Sumner has been a dedicated member of the Corangamite Emergency Services Team since its inception and since 2003 a continuing member of the Timboon Red Cross Branch.

During the St Patrick’s Day fires in 2018, she was activated a number of times at the Cobden Relief Centre, including overnight shifts at the Terang Relief Centre.
