IT may have taken seven rounds, but the Timboon Demons are now on the winners’ list – and off the bottom of the Warrnambool and District ladder.
In last Saturday’s bottom-of-the-table clash at Davidson Oval, the Demons were down by 10-points going into the half-time break but settled in the second to stay within 16 points going into the final term.
The final quarter was a huge one for the visitors, who rallied and made the most of the ball in their forward line, booting seven goals two while keeping Old Collegians to just four points for the term.
Final scores were Timboon 8.8.56 to Old Collegians 4.8.32.
Best for the visitors were Sam Negrello, Samuel Newey, Kyle Delaney, Lachlan Rosolin, Thomas Hunt and Lyndon Alsop.
Ben Harding, Marcus Hickey and Thomas Hunt each kicked two for the Demons, while Negrello and Newey also added to the board.
Demons coach Marcus Hickey said he was absolutely thrilled with the result, which was “reward for effort”.
“The boys have been really training well and putting in the hard yards so Saturday’s win was a great reward for them,” he said.
“It was a great all-round effort with everyone playing their role. We stuck to our game plan and played like we train. They really deserved the win.”
Hickey said the atmosphere in the rooms after the game was “amazing” and the side was now keen to take on South Rovers this weekend in what they believe is a winnable game.
“The club is going really well at the moment so for the seniors to have a win was the icing on the cake,” he said.
“We really are travelling in the right direction.”
Earlier in the day, the reserves were defeated by Old Collegians, 2.6.18 to 5.4.34.
Best for the Demons were Joe Williams, Steven Crees, Harrison Whiting, Jack Gaut, Eoghan Cronin and Jeremy Dollan while goals were scored by Ben Bacon and Jack Gaut.
Timboon’s under 18 side had a great day out on Saturday, defeating Old Collegians 11.9.75 to 1.3.9.
They now hold top spot on the ladder, percentage above Kolora Noorat in second.
Best for the Demons on the weekend were Lennox Tregea-Copeland, Taj Field, Jack Matthews, Bailey Delaney, Robert Morden and Will Moorhouse.
Leroy Steere and Eben White booted three each for the Demons while Tregea-Copeland added two and singles came from Jack Banks, Jasper Makin and Taj Quarrell.
Timboon’s netballers had a tough round at Davidson Oval, winning A grade but defeated in all other games played.
