Demons finals bound
WITH just two rounds of the Mininera League home and away season left to play, Lismore Derrinallum’s senior footballers are finals bound.
A successful 2024 campaign sees the Demons currently sitting third on the ladder, equal on points but percentage above Hawkesdale Macarthur and a game clear of the fifth-placed Ararat.
The race home will see the Demons take on ladder leaders Wickliffe Lake Bolacat Lismore tomorrow (Saturday) in the hope of serving the Magpies their first defeat of the season, before facing Hawkesdale Macarthur in the final round.
Round 14 last Saturday saw the Demons celebrate a 25-point win over the Ararat Eagles at Alexandra Oval.
The Demons took an early lead in the first quarter but the Eagles came back in the second to go into the main break with an 11-point lead.
A tough third quarter and strong pressure all over the ground saw the Demons contain the home side on the scoreboard while adding seven majors, giving them a handy 32-point lead going into the final term.
The Eagles won the final quarter, kicking 4.1 to the Demons’ three straight goals, however the earlier work paid off, with Lismore Derrinallum taking the win 14.5.89 to 10.4.64.
Lachie Constable, Liam Rigby and Blake Scott kicked three each for the day while Jack Pitts and Nicholas Schiemer added two each and James Halloran one.
Best for the side were Henry Walsh, Liam Rigby, Blake Scott, James Halloran, Josh Sanders and Schiemer.
Lismore Derrinallum’s reserves are also in the top five, currently sitting fourth and a game clear of Wickliffe Lake Bolac.
The third-placed Ararat Eagles proved too strong last weekend, defeating the Demons 9.5.59 to 6.4.40.
James Boag kicked two goals while Matthew Bacon, Luke Fellows, Jed Millard and Bradley Schiltz contributed one apiece.
Among the best were Sebastian Smith, Jack Sanders, Fraser Toohey, Jason Germon, Boag and Tom Parker.
In the under 16.5 match, the Demons were beaten by 38 points, 5.1.31 to 10.9.69.
Isaac Cootesmith, John Fay, Charlie Londregan and Samuel McConachy kicked a goal each.
Best players were Cootesmith, Londregan, Fay, McConachy, Jack Smith and Billy Snibson.

C grade – Lismore Derrinallum defeated Ararat 39-30. Best: Hannah Walker and Jaala Perkins.
18 and under – Ararat defeated Lismore Derrinallum 36-35. Best: Stella Horspole.
15 and under – Ararat defeated Lismore Derrinallum 21-13. Best: Lacey Grundmann.
13 and under – Lismore Derrinallum defeated Ararat 22-5.
