Demons finish strong

THE second chapter for Lismore Derrinallum’s 2022 season starts this weekend according to senior coach Alec Wiltshire.
With the first chapter – the home and away season – now under their belts, Wiltshire said his focus was now firmly set on the finals series and bringing home the ultimate prize.
“Reflecting on our season to date, I could not be prouder,” Wiltshire said.
“We set out to play finals and here we are, sitting in third and looking strong."
“We only lost three games for the year and had one draw so that’s very pleasing.”
Wiltshire said his side’s initial goal at the start of the season was to play finals – now they have their sights on the premiership flag.
“This (the flag) is what we all play for and what we work hard to achieve. We had seven or eight new players come to the fold at the start of the season and they’ve all slotted in really well.”
In terms of what now stands between the Demons and the flag, Wiltshire believes Ararat will be a tough hurdle but he has faith in his charges.
“At full strength we really are a very strong side and I believe we can match it with the best,” he said.
“Ararat certainly does have four or five top end players who are hard to match up with but we have a more even balance; we have 21 contributors who are reliable all over the ground and that’s what wins games.”
Wiltshire believes the success the club has enjoyed on the ground this season is also reflected off-field.
“It’s just a great club to be around and the vibe is really good,” he said.
“Everyone is getting behind each other and working hard to achieve the ultimate prize."
“We’re lucky we have such a solid foundation, from the players through to the many volunteers that help make the club tick over.”
