WITH half a dozen players hit by COVID, and several others unavailable, Timboon Demons were forced to forfeit their reserves match last weekend.
Scheduled to play Kolora Noorat on Saturday, the Demons made the call to forfeit the match and look ahead to this weekend’s final round at home against Allansford.
Senior coach Marcus Hickey said the call was made late last week once player unavailability was known.
“It was certainly a shame to have to do that (forfeit) but it is what it is; we’ve been pretty lucky in terms of illness and injury so now we’ll just look ahead to our final game of the home and away season.”
In the seniors match on Saturday, Hickey said despite a 117-point loss he was “super proud” of his playing group.
“The scoreboard really didn’t reflect just how well the boys went,” Hickey said.
“Unfortunately, as has been the case most of this year, we just lacked the firepower up forward to make the most of our opportunities."
“Kolora Noorat’s big forwards really got on top of us for most of the game and they really took off in the second half. Nevertheless, hopefully we’ll have about 10 blokes back in the side this week for our final game at home.”
Hickey said while the season will end this Saturday for the seniors, the club’s under 18s were finals-bound.
“It’s great the 18s will be in the finals and we’ll all really get behind them. They’ve worked hard all year and deserve to have a good crack at it (the flag).”
Final scores in the senior game last weekend were Timboon 1.3.9 to Kolora Noorat 19.12.126.
Best for the Demons were Ben Bacon, Lachlan Rosolin, Thomas Hunt, Samuel Newey, Max Bond and Jordan Fowler.
Marcus Hickey was the side’s only goal scorer.
