Demons prepare for season opener
LISMORE Derrinallum will this weekend host Moyston Willaura for the opening round of Mininera League’s 2023 season.

LISMORE Derrinallum will this weekend host Moyston Willaura for the opening round of Mininera League’s 2023 season.
After a solid pre-season, Demons’ senior coach Alec Wiltshire said his side was full of enthusiasm and keen to hit the ground running.
“We’re all excited for this Saturday’s opening round and really looking forward to seeing the return of footy locally,” he said.
“We want to build on last year’s performance and go deeper into finals. I was pleased with how we went throughout the home and away season, to finish third was a credit to all the boys.
“But then to go out in straight sets was tough going. We lost the first qualifying final by just four points when Tatyoon kicked a goal in the dying seconds of the game.
“That’s left a real fire in our bellies and was the driving force behind our preseason efforts.”
In terms of new recruits and player retentions, Wiltshire said his side would be a “similar line-up” to last season, with a handful leaving the Demons and a few new faces set to pull on the jumper this weekend.
“We lost a few (players) and gained a few but that creates enthusiasm among the playing group,” he said.
“This Saturday will give us an early indication of where we’re at and what we need to work on. We have no idea what other clubs are doing, or have done during the off-season, we can only control what we’re doing so that’s what we focus on.”
In other Mininera round one games, Woorndoo Mortlake will face SMW Rovers, Caramut will host Glenthompson Dunkeld and Wickliffe Lake Bolac will be host to Hawkesdale Macarthur.
