Demons stride to big victory
LISMORE Derrinallum recorded a thumping 114-point win over Caramut last week as Alec Wiltshire’s side prepares to take on the undefeated Penshurst.
The Demons showed no discomfort away from home as the side raced out to an early 33-point lead in at the end of the first quarter while holding Caramut scoreless.
Caramut was able to rally a trio of goals before the half but a thumping eight-goals in the third helped the Demons run away 22.20.152 winners over Caramut’s 6.2.38.
Wiltshire said he liked seeing a consistent performance across four quarters from his players.
“We blew the game open in the third quarter and capitalised in front of goal,” he said.
“We were pretty positive at half time because we had enough of the ball but didn’t capitalise the way we can in front of goal.
“We missed some shots we would normally get, and that was the turning point – putting it through the middle rather than settling for points.
“Our spread and run across the ground was pretty impressive and it blew the game open.”
Best players for the Demons were Lachie Constable, Blake Scott, James Halloran, Charlie Brett, Jack Atkins and Josh Anderson.
Leading the scorers was Constable who reached double figures with 10 majors, followed by Scott (7), Halloran (2) and Sanders, Jack Mccallum and Bradley Ward (1).
“Blake Scott was pretty impressive to hit seven goals out of the midfield was a pretty good day,” Wiltshire said.
“Jimmy Halloran was pretty serviceable as well through the midfield – a good day for him.”
The Demons will welcome league-leading Penshurst this weekend, who remain undefeated this season.
“It’s the next test of the season,” Wiltshire said.
“We’ve stacked up pretty well so far this season against finalists from last year such as Lake Bolac and Woorndoo Mortlake.
“We’re not too far away but Penshurst are the ones putting the runs on the board.
“They’re we’re well hyped with a good side we’re just ready for the next test and want to stick to our process, pay our footy and try to put them off their game.”
Meanwhile in the reserve grade, the Demons put Caramut to the sword with a thumping 112 point win.
Lismore Derrinallum emerged 16.18.114 runaway winners over Caramut 0.2.2.
Best players were Tom Parker, Ryan Jeffrey, Benjamin Atkins, Sebastian Smith, Jalen Cartledge and Luke Fellows.
Jeffery led scorers with eight goals while Cartledge booting three, Mitchell Hodder slotting two and Samuel Miller, Fellows and Angus Stewart kicking one apiece.
