THE timber deck bridge on Digneys Bridge Road is about to be replaced.

Works on the bridge, 3.5 km north of Timboon, are planned to start this week with access to that section of road closed during the project.

It will be raised by 0.5m after it spent parts of October and November in 2022 closed due to flooding.

Corangamite Shire council manger assets management John Kelly said the works would take about six weeks to complete, subject to weather.

“The project is funded by $140,000 from council and by a $560,000 grant from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program,” he said.

“The road at the bridge site will have to be fully closed during the works so motorists are asked to plan alternative routes on both sides of the bridge.

“Council has contacted local residents, Public Transport Victoria and the local school bus company, emergency services and other stakeholders and has set up a web page for updates at www.corangamite.vic.gov.au/DigneysBridge.”

Mr Kelly said signage would be in place to detour traffic.

He said Digneys Bridge Road on the approaches to the bridge will be effectively closed except for local traffic only.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience while we do this essential work,” Mr Kelly said.

“The outcome will be a much-needed improvement.”

Families of affected school children are advised to contact their school bus co-ordinators for details of the interim pick up/drop off arrangements.
