District to pay its respects
ACROSS the district residents will turn out to Anzac Day services next week to pay their respects.

After a successful first year, Timboon Action will again be hosting a march in Timboon on Anzac Day – Thursday, April 25.
Timboon Action president Heather Martin said this year’s service will run in a similar format to last year.
“We will assemble at the Timboon Senior Citizens from about 7.45am ready for the march to the War Memorial in the Power Creek precinct,” she said.
“The march will be followed by a commemorative service and afterwards there will be tea, coffee, Anzac biscuits and bacon and egg rolls provided by Timboon Opportunity Shop, the Fat Cow and Timboon Action which will be free of charge.
“Last year was the first service that had been run in Timboon for about 50 years.
“We were amazed by the turnout and the emotionally stirring event.”
Ms Martin encouraged the community to support the service.
“It’s great to have it back again; the community really appreciated it last year,” she said.
“But if you’re unable to attend, you can watch on the Timboon Action Facebook page with a livestream provided.
“We’re looking forward to the community coming together again.”
Simpson and district residents are invited to pay their respects at the town’s annual Anzac Day service.
Simpson and District Community Centre hosts the event, which continues to grow in popularity, each year.
Community centre co-ordinator Debra Smith said the service will be held on Wednesday, April 24 – the day before Anzac Day.
“The readings will be undertaken by students from Simpson Primary School and this year we have Bree Jones as emcee,” she said.
“Bree is a tireless community volunteer and leader and a great role model for the future generations.”
The service will begin at 10.30 at the flagpole in Jaycees Park.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and umbrella if the weather dictates.
In Cobden, now an annual tradition for the 1st Cobden Scout Group, co-ordinator of the service, John Wason invited the community to attend this year’s service.
He said the service will begin at 11am at the Cobden cenotaph.
Mr Wason said the group is looking forward to the annual service.
“It’s a good experience for the Scouts to be involved in,” he said.
“This year a former Queen Scout – Hayley Wason – will be playing the New Zealand National Anthem and Ethan Duynhoven will be playing the Australian National Anthem.
“We also utilise all of the scouts to lay the wreaths.”
Mr Wason said this year there will be at least 38 wreaths to be laid on behalf of community groups.
“If anything businesses or volunteer organisations would like to place a wreath, please contact me on 0434 387 093,” he said.
Community members are welcome to bring their own wreaths to lay on the day as well.
A light morning tea will follow the service.
A dawn service will also be held at the Port Campbell War Memorial for community members at 6am.
