Drier-than-average start to winter

THE region has experienced a dry start to winter, with below-average rainfall recorded in Camperdown, Derrinallum and Lismore.

Camperdown recorded 32.3mm of rainfall for the month of June, close to half of last year’s rainfall of 73.5mm in the same time period.

The figure also falls below the long-term monthly average of 74.4mm.

The highest daily rainfall recorded in Camperdown fell on June 12, with 19mm hitting the ground during the 24-hour period.

Camperdown’s rainfall total for 2024 currently sits at 170.6mm.

Meanwhile, Derrinallum saw 25.4mm of rainfall for the month of June.

The figure is significantly below last year’s total of 91.2mm in the same period, as well as close to half of the long-term monthly average of 56.6mm.

The highest daily rainfall for Derrinallum was recorded on June 29, where 6.2mm hit the ground.

To date, Derrinallum’s total rainfall for 2024 sits at 139.8mm.

Lismore recorded 29.4mm of rainfall for June this year.

The figure falls below the long-term monthly average of 53.8mm, as well as last year’s total of 80.2mm of rainfall in June.

June 12 saw Lismore’s highest daily rainfall for the month, with 7mm being recorded over a 24-hour period.

Lismore’s 2024 rainfall total currently sits at 129.7mm.
