POLICE held Operation Optimus in Terang last Wednesday.

Members from Terang, Camperdown, Warrnambool Highway Patrol and the Nation Heavy Vehicle Regulator conducted checks on heavy vehicles travelling through Terang.

Ninety trucks and 20 vehicles were intercepted, with Victoria Police officers checking driver’s work diaries, roadworthiness of vehicles and conducting drug and alcohol testing.

Two major defects and three penalty notices were issued.

Four formal warnings were given regarding fatigue, work diary and load restraint offences.

Multiple drivers were educated around work diary requirements and load/mass restrictions.

One driver tested positive to an illicit substance and will be summonsed to court.

Another driver was arrested with a warrant for failing to appear at court.

In a statement police said it was “overall a pleasing result”.

“Please continue to drive to the conditions and stay safe on the roads, especially leading up to the festive season,” the statement read.
