REPEATED illegal dumpings of human waste at the Cobden dump point has forced the closure of the facility.

The camp dump point was a project driven by the Cobden Visitor Information Centre and local community groups to help draw caravans to the area.

Cobden Visitor Information Centre co-ordinator Juli Dwyer expressed her frustrations at the incidents which have been reported to police.

“We are extremely disappointed,” she said.

“The first time was between Christmas and New Year’s, the second was a couple of weeks after that and then a couple of weeks later again.

“The worst part is, it’s caravanners that have found it (the blocked dump point) each time.”

Mrs Dwyer said due to the issues, the committee had been forced to padlock the dump point.

“Because of the volume (of waste) going in, it’s blocking the system,” she said.

“Someone is emptying portable toilets or something like that.

“It’s a massive volume. Whoever is doing it, we just want it to stop.”

Mrs Dwyer said security cameras would be installed at the site.

Illegal activity: The dump point has been padlocked after repeated misuse and illegal dumping of waste.
