After finishing fifth at the end of the home and away series, the Bombers will head to Hanlon Park this Sunday to take on the Koroit Saints.
The Bombers finished just half a game ahead of neighbours Camperdown (in sixth) after a three-point loss to the eighth-placed Warrnambool Blues last weekend.
Playing in front of their home crowd on Saturday, the Bombers were jumped early by the Blues who finished the opening term with a six-point lead.
The Bombers went out firing in the second term, adding six goals to the board while containing the visitors to three majors, giving them a handy 12-point lead at the main break.
The visitors then got within three points of the home side by three-quarter time before a strong final term saw them turn the game over, taking the win by just three points.
Final scores were Warrnambool 13.12.90 to Cobden 13.9.87.
Patrick Smith, Mitch Reed, Ashley Rosolin, Paul Pekin and Brody Mahoney were named in the best for the Bombers.
Pekin and Smith both contributed three goals to the board, while Michael Koroneos and Henry Robertson each kicked two, along with Tully Darcy, Thomas Spokes and Jesse Williamson who all contributed a goal apiece.
The final round of the home and away season saw the Bombers’ reserves enjoy a 22-point win over the Blues to secure second position on the league ladder.
Last Saturday’s final scores were Cobden 9.10.64 to Warrnambool 6.6.42.
The Bombers will be hoping for a repeat of the scoreline this weekend when the two sides clash again in the qualifying final at Camperdown from 12 noon
Best for the Bombers on Saturday were Matt Clarke, Sam Darcy, Thomas Darcy, Louis Cahill, Jack McGlade and Matthew Rhode.
Thomas Darcy kicked four for the Bombers while Joshua Hickey added two and Martin Angus, William Benallack and Oliver Darcy kicked a goal each.
Saturday’s qualifying final in the seniors will be played between North Warrnambool and Terang Mortlake at Camperdown.
The netball courts provided mixed results for the Bombers.
Open – Cobden defeated Warrnambool 53-39. Best for the Bombers: Sarah Moroney, Amy Hammond and Alicia Blain.
Division one – Cobden defeated Warrnambool 58-33. Best players: Molly Hutt, Helene Foster and Grace Taylor.
Division two – Cobden defeated Warrnambool 40-35. Best: Kayla Pouw, Amy Kavenagh and Emily Darcy.
Division three – Cobden defeated Warrnambool 42-39. Best: Grace Dawson, Macey-lee Hickey and Tonya Spokes.
17 and under – Cobden lost to Warrnambool 39-41. Best: Matilda Darcy, Jessica Walsh and Nikki Clover.
17 and under reserves – Cobden defeated Warrnambool 46-20. Best: Krystal Blain and Shelby Cameron.
15 and under – Cobden defeated Warrnambool 32-21. Best: Emily Hickey and Milla Darcy.
13 and under – Cobden lost to Warrnambool 10-25. Best player: Tyra Sambell.
Cobden’s division one and under 17 reserves netball sides will both enjoy the week off this weekend.
