Elite cyclist joins local riders
CAMPERDOWN Cycling Club members were excited to be able to ride alongside elite cyclist and racing star Grace Brown last week.
Race seven of the season for the local group, held last Thursday night, saw members of all ages enjoy a ‘meet and greet’ with the superstar before riders marshalled at the start line alongside Brown.
President of the Camperdown Cycling Club, Matt Clark, introduced Brown to all junior riders and their families before the group set off on the six kilometre circuit.
The limit rider (the smallest in the group) rode from the start line with Brown before she filtered back through the pack, giving all juniors the opportunity to ride alongside her.
Brown also led a social ride around the circuit, taking time to stop and take photos, before returning to enjoy a barbecue and presentations at the Mockridge Park clubrooms.
Brown presented junior riders with a signed mini-poster of her winning gold at the Olympics, along with some signed books as prizes.
Riders and their families also enjoyed the opportunity to take a close look at Browns Olympic gold and World Championship medals.
Brown also spent time visiting a local church, nursing homes and several schools (including Camperdown College, where she met her former teachers and toured the campus she attended until year nine) and was special guest at a country racing night and a shire civic reception.
