Ella thrives with a whistle

CAMPERDOWN netballer Ella Sadler has won Hampden League’s club-nominated Under 19 Umpire Rising Star award.
Ella, who continues to thrive courtside with a whistle in her hand, said she began umpiring when she was 12, honing her skills in the junior Friday night competition at the Camperdown stadium and “a few night games” at Cobden.
The 16-year-old now enjoys umpiring under 15s and division two matches in the Hampden league – in between playing for the Magpies in both the under 17s and open sides.
“I love playing netball and I love umpiring; I think umpiring helps make me a better player,” Ella said.
Ella gained her C badge this season and now hopes to further develop her skills next year.
“Hopefully I can get even more experience next season and possibly umpire at a higher level,” she said.
“I was thrilled to receive the rising star award and very surprised.”
