Enabling outdoor learning
STUDENTS at Derrinallum P12 College will soon reap the benefits of outdoor learning thanks to grant funding for new sail shades.

STUDENTS at Derrinallum P12 College will soon reap the benefits of outdoor learning thanks to grant funding for new sail shades.
The school applied for $25,000 funding from the Victorian School Building Authority to create an outdoor classroom area.
The School Shade Sails Fund was open to all government schools, funding the construction and installation of shade sails.
Business manager Sally Mahony said the fund and the new shade sails were a result of the COVID pandemic, where the return to school included a focus on increasing air flow.
“We’ve got to be able to provide areas where the kids can go and learn in an outdoor environment,” she said.
“This has been in the making for 18 months.
“A Ballarat company has installed it for us, and now we’re just got to organised some furniture for the kids and they can use it come summer.”
