TERANG export Brett ‘Angry’ Brumby is set to star in an upcoming season of global-hit show Aussie Gold Hunters.

Western District Newspapers can exclusively confirm Mr Brumby is currently in the process of production for a forthcoming season, with camera crews following himself and partner Kateva Dubberley

around Western Australia in search of ever-elusive gold.

After dedicating years as an amateur prospector, Mr Brumby decided to make the professional leap seven years ago and set his sights on Leonora, neighbouring on the infamous ghost town of Gwalia.

Gwalia was a thriving mining town but in 1963 the local Sons of Gwalia Mine was closed, which saw 250 jobs cut and the town’s population collapse from 1200 to less than 40 over the span of three weeks.

Speaking with Western District Newspapers with the film crew in toe, Mr Brumby said he was hoping to “do Terang proud”.

“It is a different world altogether out here; to put things in perspective, the nearest Safeway is an almost six hours round trip,” he said.

“But in Western Australia it’s fairly easy to acquire a gold lease and work your own ground, so I made the jump and never looked back.

“I’ve refined the art, especially over the last four or five years, so we got our leases, earthmoving and processing equipment and are making a living of it.

“I love it. It’s one of the best changes I ever made in my life; it beats the hell out of fixing cars.”

Mr Brumby said he had received word Aussie Gold Hunters producers had been trying to track him down for a while due to his loveable larrikin attitude, outspoken nature and a belief he would have an authentic impact on the show.

“A few circumstances had changed for us and I thought why not?” he said.

“It’s been quite interesting filming for the show, it’s a lot different from what I normally do with all these cameras involved.

“I can’t say much but I can tell you these episodes are based on what happens; all the dramas, all the work is actually happening.”

Mr Brumby earned the ironic nickname ‘Angry’ due to his laid-back attitude, and thinks he can bring a few laughs to the show.

“Nothing much phases me so even when things go wrong I just keep plodding along,” he said.

“My partner Kat (Originally from Ballarat) is a fish out of water because she lost her office job and has been growing her involvement in prospecting, so she’s taking the learning curve in stride.”

Aussie Gold Hunters has been a hit thanks to soaring gold prices and Australia’s position as the largest producer of gold in the world.

The show has been a hit on the international stage too, with Australia’s notoriety of boasting unique personalities fighting for riches in the extreme weather of central Western Australia proving a strong allure.

The series was renewed for an eighth and ninth season last year after being broadcast across the world to millions of viewers.

Aussie Gold Hunters is available to watch on Foxtel Go and Binge.
