PORT Campbell Visitor Information Centre and 12 Apostles Helicopters and have developed a perfect partnership to enhance local whale viewing opportunities for visitors and residents.
For the second year in a row the 12 Apostles helicopter team will call in all sightings and update the VIC team to inform visitors and loan out binoculars to enhance the experience.
“With 12 Apostles helicopters as our eyes in the sky keeping us updated we are able direct visitors to clifftop lookouts for viewing based on where the whales are located and their direction of travel,” VIC co-ordinator Mark Cuthell said.
“While it is never guaranteed we can greatly increase the odds.”
Visitors and residents can borrow binoculars from the VIC to enhance the experience as part of the #12avip (12 Apostles Visitor Inspiration Project.)
Mr Cuthell said all equipment is loaned free of charge but users need to have a credit card and fill out a loan form which takes less than a minute.
“We are flying daily over one of the most spectacular coasts on the planet, and there is always excitement when the whales start to return,” 12 Apostles Helicopters chief pilot Richard Nesseler said.
“It is nice to know that we can support the Visitor Information Centre and help them provide memorable experiences for visitors and locals.”
Residents can call the Visitor Information Centre on 1300 137 255 for updates or check for posts on the Port Campbell Beacon Facebook page.
