F1 Sale delivers

Camperdown Stock Agents Association president Tim Healey said 1275 head of cattle sold on the day, which was on a par with last year’s yarding of 1289 head.
The best joined heifers made $2000 and were sold by Rhonda Alexander of South Purrumbete.
The top pen of black Hereford Friesian cross unjoined heifers made $1300 and were sold by Pat and Marjory Hickey of Timboon.
The Terang based partnership of Blain and Kenna realised the top price for unjoined Angus/Friesian crosses at $1280.
“The sale was very, very competitive with other similar markets in the area,” Mr Healey said.
“The prices were certainly a bit softer than last year, but were still very acceptable.”
“The sale had a good supply of good quality heifers.
“Bidding was steady.
“It’s been a good season so far, we’re a third of the way through summer and have only had a few hot days.”
Averages for the day saw joined heifers sell for $1925, unjoined for $1000 to $1280 and the smaller younger cattle sell for $500 to $850.
Benalla based enterprise Mindarra Park returned for the second year in a row to present heifers with calves at foot, with several pens selling for $1950.
F1 heifers are bred specifically for rearing vealers.
The heifers are first crosses out of straight Friesians by bulls of beef breeds such as Angus, Murray Grey and Hereford.
Their large frames and plentiful milk production make them ideal mothers for vealers.
