Families throw a line in for fun
FAMILIES enjoyed a day at the lake thanks to a collaboration between three angling clubs in the district and the Victorian Recreational Fishing peak body (VR Fish).

The Camperdown, Lake Purrumbete and Cobden angling clubs held a ‘Gone Fishing’ day last Sunday, with 87 people signing up to give fishing a go on the day.
‘Gone Fishing’ day is an initiative by the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation to celebrate fishing and the benefits it has for communities and individuals and encourage more to take up the sport.
Organiser Jim Boyd said it was “good” to have a mix of children and adults putting a line in at Lake Bullen Merri, with ages ranging from five years to over 80.
“We reckoned 60 was a pass mark, and we got 87, so we had a great day,” he said.
“We had people from Colac, Mortlake, Terang and Warrnambool – there were even two people who saw the advert in IGA from Adelaide.
“We hope to hold another one next year, with all three clubs together.
“We might even hold one during the year to keep the ball rolling.”
One lucky resident, Noah Riches, took home the main prize for catching a two-kilogram tiger trout.
Mr Boyd said the day also allowed for the angling clubs to encourage new fishers into their ranks.
“The clubs had their memberships there, and two of the clubs were signing people up,” he said.
“The other secretary wasn’t there, but names were taken.
“They got some memberships, and hopefully they’ll follow through and be part of the club.”
