Festival a success

Fifty years of education: Past and current Cobden Technical School students walked in the annual Fonterra Street Parade as part of Cobden Spring Festival celebrations.

RAIN failed to dampen spirits at the 24th annual CopRice Cobden Spring Festival over the weekend.

Committee member Misty Angus said the festival featured a reinvigorated program highlighting festival favourites as well as new activities, workshops and competitions.

“The festival was really good despite the weather,” she said.

“We had about 1000 people attending.”

Ms Angus said a number of new additions were added to the line-up this year which were well received.

“The build a bucket was a great success, it completely sold out by lunch time,” she said.

“We had an enormous turn out for the Otway Boots Gumboot Toss Competition.

“It was a really good community event.”

For the first time a festival King and Queen were anointed, with town stalwarts Tony “Pies” Malone and Alma MacDonald taking on the roles respectively.

Ms Angus said feedback from the weekend had been positive.

“I’ve already had a lot of positive feedback,” she said.

“Stallholders all seemed to have a good day.”

Ms Angus thanked all those involved in the annual community event.

“Thank you to all of the committee members who worked really hard and to our sponsors who we couldn’t hold the event without,” she said.
