Finals await Tiger netballers
WITH the final home and away round this weekend, Woorndoo Mortlake’s netballers are preparing for their finals campaign.
Round 16 of the Mininera League will see the Tigers travel to Moyston Willaura on Saturday to take on the Pumas, and if results fall their way, all three senior and three junior sides could be finals bound.
The Tigers’ A grade team currently sits third on the league ladder, a game clear of Hawkesdale Macarthur in fourth and should retain this position while B grade should also stay in third, currently sitting a game and a half of their closest rivals, Tatyoon.
In the C grade competition, the Tigers are sitting fifth – a game and a half clear of the sixth-placed Hawkesdale Macarthur - and will play in the following week’s elimination final.
Woorndoo Mortlake’s 18 and under side has again had a successful season on court, sitting unbeaten on top of the ladder and are hot contenders for another premiership flag.
The 15 and unders have also performed well to date and sit second, just percentage behind ladder leaders Glenthompson Dunkeld but two games clear of nearest rivals, Tatyoon in third.
The young 13 and under side will need to win this Saturday’s final round match against Moyston Willaura, and rely on Glenthompson Dunkeld to be defeated by the third-placed Tatyoon if they are to sneak into fifth spot.
Last weekend saw the Tigers travel the long road to Stawell for their round 15 match-up against Great Western.
Results were as follows:
A grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Great Western 50-32. Best players: Elise Killen and Georgia McCormick.
B grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Great Western 37-24. Best: Brooke Eldridge and Shona Makepeace.
C grade – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Great Western 34-20. Best: Lily Schuuring and Chloe Eastwood.
15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Great Western 30-26. Best: Ava Wardlaw and Layla Wardlaw.
13 and under – Great Western defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 34-6. Best: Billie Carmody and Rekiah Martin.
