DESPITE their best efforts, the finals campaign has come to an end for Timboon’s A grade netballers.
The Demons put in a solid four-quarters in Sunday’s semi-final match at Allansford but were unable to match it with Panmure, going down 30-52.
Senior coach Carley Hickey said she was proud of her side, which finished fifth after the home and away season.
“To finish in the top five, and then to defeat South Rovers in the elimination final was a credit to the girls who showed great resilience and versatility throughout the season,” she said.
“I’m very proud of the team; they are extremely versatile and resilient. We had lots of injuries and illnesses but managed to get through the season and play finals.”
Reflecting on last Sunday’s semi-final, Hickey made particular mention of Tessa Poot and Holly Castledine.
“Tessa did a fantastic job at goal keeper, she made Panmure’s shooters work really hard for every goal,” she said.
“And Holly played several positions, showing her versatility and fitness. She started at wing defence and then went to centre before moving to goal defence.
“We had a relatively new-look side this year but they worked well together and had a great season both on and off the court.”
