Finals hopes still alive
WITH three rounds left of the home and away season, Timboon’s A grade netballers sit just a game outside the top five.
Despite a 10-goal loss to Dennington last weekend (29-19), the side’s finals hopes remain alive.
Timboon will face Merrivale (third) this weekend before taking on Russells Creek (eighth) and then South Rovers (ninth) in round 18.
Other results for the Demons on the netball courts were as follows:
A reserve – Dennington defeated Timboon 27-22.
B grade – Timboon defeated Dennington 36-17.
17 and under – Timboon defeated Dennington 23-20.
15 and under – Dennington defeated Timboon 15-13.
13 and under – Dennington defeated Timboon 22-17.
Timboon’s senior footballers sit eighth on the Warrnambool and District League ladder but only one game behind the fifth-placed Dennington.
With only three rounds of the home and away season remaining, the battle is on for that fifth spot, with Panmure, Kolora Noorat and the Timboon Demons all equal on points – separated only by percentage.
Round 15 last Saturday saw the Demons go down to Dennington by 30 points, 5.5.35 to 8.17.65.
Ash Hunt, Oliver Stansfield, Lyndon Alsop, Balun Cumming, Mitchell Wallace and Martin Angus were all among the best for the side.
Angus kicked two majors for the team while Ned Deppeler, Wallace and Eben White contributed a goal each.
Timboon’s reserves sit bottom of the ladder with two wins to date.
Final scores last Saturday were Dennington 11.4.70 to Timboon 4.5.29.
Beavan Castles kicked two goals while Drew Kordupel and Leroy Steere contributed one each.
Best for the side were Zeth Kerr, Daniel Shanahan, Killian O’Dwyer, Bayley Kelly, Luke Gledhill and Leroy Steere.
