The Bloods put on a strong performance in often muddy conditions at Reid Oval on Sunday afternoon.

Under the direction of coach Nathan Jones, the side won seven of its eight matches in the Western Victoria Female Football League, finishing the home and away season second on the ladder.

“The girls were certainly disappointed with the loss, after making the grand final last season, but they all played well and should be proud of their efforts,” Jones said.

“We started well and had a five point lead after the first quarter but Cavendish turned it around in the second and were in front by two goals at half-time.

“Our third quarter really let us down and they got out to a 20-point lead but we always finish strong so I knew we were in with a chance.”

Jones said while the girls had multiple scoring shots, unfortunately the conversion rate wasn’t there.

“Unfortunately we struggled to get the ball through the big sticks but in saying that, they all put in a solid effort.

“I think we lose about five top-age players next season but we’ve got a relatively long playing list and we’ll be strong again next season.”

Final scores on Sunday were Terang Mortlake 3.9.27 to Cavendish 6.5.41.

Sommer Jones, Sema Meric and Taleah Murfett kicked a goal each for the side while Tayla Bell, Nikaiah Murfett, Jessica Bell, Annabelle Glossop, Claire Kenndy and Sema Meric were all named among the best.

The grand final match, between South Warrnambool and Cavendish, will be played at Mortlake’s Wilsons DC Farran Oval this Sunday.
