FIREBIRDS have taken out the Mortlake indoor netball premiership for 2022.

In what was the first netball grand final since 2019 (due to COVID interruptions), the Firebirds defeated Vixens by one goal, 32-31.

Firebirds led at every quarter but with the highest margin being just three goals, it was a close match.

When the two sides met during the season, Vixens won both games by small margins (two goals and four goals respectively).

Presentations were made after the final, with the best and fairest award going to Liz Fowler on 10 votes, closely followed by runners-up Holly Fowler and Oscar Ritchie both on nine.

Chloe Bricknall, Kane Killen and Lily Schuuring all finished third on eight votes each.

First year player Taylah Rohan took out the most improved trophy.
